Why Advertising?
Lots of people say, “advertising is my passion.” Me? Guilty.
I’m constantly reading books, blogs, articles, and annuals. Watching movies, listening to podcasts. Visiting art galleries and museums. Scrolling social media… you get the point.
I love ads. Critiquing them figuring out the insights behind them and thinking of ways to improve them. But most of all, I love making them.
I’m also observant of world around me. Not just with ads, but with the people I see and the things I hear. Because to me, advertising isn’t only about my connection to the world. It’s also about the way my target sees that same world through a completely different set of experiences.
Summed up in three words, I love advertising.
Advertising Books
And before you ask, yes, I’ve read them. Go ahead and quiz me (but please don’t, I don’t test well).
Non-Ad Reading
I own over 600 books and I’m slowly sifting my way through them.
You’re thinking, “Over 600 books? No way.” "
Yes way. I can’t control myself when it comes to books and it’s part of the reason a career where I get to use words for a living was the perfect choice.
Here are some of my favourites.
I’ll end this…
with an ironic, albeit fitting, quotation from one of my favourite authors, Oscar Wilde:
“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”
